US army about to deploy in the Continental USA

This is not supposed to happen. Americans have not allowed their military to operate on American soil in a very long time. As the Army Times reports, that's about to change. Glenn Greeenwald has more.

I think you are also referring to the Posse Comitatus Act which originated in 1878. It prohibits the use of the Army, Navy, Marines and the Air Force from being used as local law enforcement that would normally be handled by civilian law enforcement. They can be used as law enforcement on Federal property, primarily US military bases. They can be used in emergencies, such as Katrina, if authorized by Congress & the president. A good write up of the act (written pre-9/11) can be read at:

SPECIAL COVERAGE I live-blogged the spontaneous Obama victory celebration in Washington DC. Experience what it felt like to be among thousands of deliriously happy people gathered outside the White House. Click here.

Previously, I had been blogging about the Obama, McCain and the US election. I wrote about Sarah Palin on this blog even before McCain chose her to be his running mate. The choice was disappointing, and a possibility I had anticipated.
